Summit Collars and Industrial Supply offers a full line of solid set screw shaft collars. These solid collars are your most economical option. They install axially, secured with a set screw. In general, couplings connect two shafts such as a temporary repair when a shaft breaks, or as a permanent connector between a power source and a component driven on a separate shaft. Shaft collars act as a stop to retain equipment on shafts
Choose from zinc plated, black oxide, or stainless steel and lightweight aluminum. Metric sizes are also available.
Summit Collars and Industrial Supply offers single split shaft collars which provide a tighter fit than solid type collars while reducing the risk of damage to the shaft. They are installed axially and secured with a cap screw. Choose from zinc plated, black oxide, stainless steel and aluminum. Threaded bore single spit collars are also available. Metric sizes are also available.
Summit Collars and Industrial Supply offers double split shaft collars which installs without disassembling machinery. Double split industrial collars provide excellent clamping power and are secured with two cap screws. Their grooved face indicates that they are machined with precision, ensuring that the face is precisely perpendicular to the bore. They are installed axially and secured with a cap screw. Choose from zinc plated, black oxide, stainless steel and aluminum. Metric sizes are also available.
We stock black oxide and Stainless Steel rigid couplings in sizes from 1/4" to 1 1/4. Some sizes are available with standard keyways. A coupling’s main purpose is its drive function, connecting things to turn power into motion. Another common function is absorption of mounting errors. It takes time to align the driveshaft to the driven shaft with precision. If the axes of two shafts are misaligned, extra force is repeatedly applied to surrounding parts, causing vibration and noise. This is where couplings can be used to absorb mounting errors, which can easily occur given errors in machining accuracy. Couplings can transmit power dynamically and accurately even when there is misalignment between shafts. Couplings absorb vibration and shock to prevent damage and wear to motors and other components. Couplings also prevent heat transfer from, for example, a motor so that parts are not deformed or shifted from their correct positions from that heat.
Single and double split couplings are available with or without keyways. Materials offered: black oxide and stainless steel.
Normal duty pillow block, 4-bolt flange, and 2-bolt flange bearings are available in set screw and eccentric types. Light duty 2-bolt flange bearings are also available in set screw and eccentric types. Summit Collars and Industrial Supply offers these pillow block bearings in our UCP, UCF and UCFL series.
The most common industrial application that uses radial ball bearings is an electric motor. This is because radial bearings carry loads and movement between the shaft and housing in both axial directions. An axial direction is defined as rotating, or moving, in the direction of the axis. Radial bearings can accept load in both directions along the axis (back and forth), whereas an angular contact bearing can’t.
Single, double, triple, and quadruple strand ANSI roller chain is available in riveted or cottered construction. Stainless steel and nickel plating is available for select sizes of single strand roller chain. Heavy series and extended pitch roller chain isalso available.
Yes, steel shaft collars are weldable. The black oxide coating may need to removed exposing plain steel for a better surface to weld. This can be done using a metal brush to remove the black from a single weld spot or a tumbler to remove black completely.
Yes, some customers will add tapped or through holes on the face of the shaft collar to mount directly on applications such as pulleys.
Yes, about 5%. This is because it uses the full seating torque to apply clamping forces to the shaft.
While there is no formal industry standard for shaft collars, the dimensions of most manufacturers’ collars are fairly uniform. In most applications, the shaft collar bore (ID) is considered a critical dimension while other dimensions such as outer dimension and width are considered non-critical.
The face groove on clamping collars indicates the face that should be placed against a bearing or other component requiring a perpendicular to bore orientation. For two-piece clamping collars, the face groove also helps keep the two halves of the collar properly oriented during installation.
